Lifestyle Medicine

In my lifestyle medicine approach, I attempt to assess and optimize important pillars of health. The pillars of health that I focus on are: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, and hormones. Many of these pillars are not best fixed with medication, although, traditional medicine certainly offers a pill for you to try. I propose that the health of the individual is most likely to improve if more of these pillars of health are optimized. I have witnessed this phenomenon personally and in the lives of my patients repeatedly. The theme of optimizing lifestyle instead of prescribing more and more pharmacotherapeutics is intertwined with my research interests and recommendations. I aim to use this information to weave in the hope that positive health change is accessible to nearly anyone who has the desire and discipline to learn and apply these concepts.

With the internet at our fingertips, we have quick access to medical information. Of course, you cannot believe everything you read! If I am not careful, I can be confused or convinced by medical information, even being trained as a physician, someone that should know better. As a patient, it has to be difficult to know who or what to trust. Foundational concepts such as biochemistry, anatomy, and physiology are still relevant, but many other things I learned in medical school have changed over the years. This website can serve as a gateway to useful patient information. I spend hours reading journal articles, reading books, watching videos, and listening to podcasts on various topics. I strive to incorporate the best evidence into my treatment plans. I also will try to point out when evidence for certain medical information is weak. I enjoy the process of learning new things and the adventure of shifting my medicine paradigm if needed. I hope this site can serve as a repository for medical information that I have critiqued, revealing new concepts, and saving the health learner precious time.
